TIPS FOR TRANSPORTING CAKES! I get many requests about how to transport cakes - here are some hints for transporting special occasion cakes without mishap: • A level area such as that found in a station wagon is best; however a heavy duty non slip mat will be required on which to place the cake box to prevent it from slipping on the surface of your vehicle. I use & recommend a foam camp mat for this purpose. • If you must place your cake on one of the seats of your vehicle, then you should build up any contours to ensure the cake box is level when it is set down. Then you will need to find a way of securing the box – usually the seat belts are not long enough for this purpose. Often pushing the passenger seat up or back (depending on wether the cake is placed on the front seat or behind it in the back) is sufficient to keep the boxed cake secure. • Regardless of your vehicle and your method of securing the cake box, SLOW, STEADY, DRIVING IS ESSENTIAL, WITH SHARP CORNERING AND SUDDEN STOPPING/ACCELERATION AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS! IMPORTANT NOTE: While a hatch has a flat surface they have been found unsatisfactory for transporting tiered cakes and cakes covered with buttercream, because the vehicle’s suspension does not provide a sufficiently smooth trip for a delicate cake.
