TODAY, Im in Crossville TN, with Dr. Robert McGee—a wounded Vietnam vet. He has cataracts so debilitating he cant function normally, but the Veterans Administration said this was elective surgery. Going blind isnt life threatening. The author of The Search for Significance and the yet-to-be-published sequel, The Search for Reality, cant even read his emails. When I told Larry Patterson M.D., about this, he offered to help, and thats exactly what he did. When Robert and I arrived at Larrys facility, I was impressed—in fact I was awed. Immediately, I knew we were in good hands. So, this morning, Dr. Patterson removed the cataract in Roberts left eye, and the other eye will be tended to very soon. Am I surprised the VA wouldnt take care of one of one of its vets? No, Im not, nor am I surprised by the gracious generosity of Dr. Larry Patterson. Hes that kind of guy; but I am grateful. While watching the surgery on the monitor from a viewing room, only one thing was missing—a Junior Mint. jackwatts.me
