TONIGHT: Sun-Sept-28: BROWNMAN+1 feat. PATRICK HEWAN If you follow Toronto jazz piano players, then youll already know this young rising star - Patrick Hewan - who, at 23 is taking the city by storm. Already one of the most in demand pianists in the scene, his expressive sensibilities and deeply introspective playing is always thrilling to watch in an ensemble context BUT his duo playing is just as exploratory and tonight to 2 of us will swim the deep, often scary waters of ultimately exposed 2-man setting duet environment in another installation of Donald Quans Brownman+1 series. I really adore playing with this kid, who - when we really get cooking - feels like he can read my every musical move (something Ive grown very used to with luminaries like Adrean Farrugia, and David Restivo)... come see what this next generation player has to offer tonight at the beautiful Musideum. https://facebook/events/1480272112230494/ ---- Sun-Sep-28: Brownman+1 feat. Patrick Hewan @ Musideum, 401 Richmond St. W., (at Spadina), Toronto 8pm, $20 door, $10 students, artists, seniors, aliens, bacteria, and anyone with a positronic net (Data, Lore, Hal-2000, R2D2, any Vultron Robot). ---- Heres some much fancier words from the press release: Multi-award-winning jazz trumpet player BROWNMAN ALI -- best known for his creatively bombastic & energized playing style and work with such luminaries as Paul Simon, Jay-z & the Dave Matthews Band -- strips down to a bare bones configuration in the Musideum +1 series, now in its second year. Sunday Sept 28s intimate duet show will feature with a rising star in the Canadian jazz piano community PATRICK HEWAN. Patrick, at only 23 years old, has already quickly become one of the most called up pianists in Toronto often appearing side-by-side Brownman, anchoring the Cole Porter Tribute band, Ori Dagan Quintet, Jordana Talsky Group and many more. Both men have built an admiration for each others playing -- Patricks own trio (a mainstay at Poetry Jazz Cafe) often features Brown; and Brown often calls Patrick when he finds himself in the Musical Director chair of projects. Their connectivity, shared time sensibilities and mutual musical synergy is remarkable and always a head turner for those seeing them together on stage. The BROWNMAN+1 series continues throughout the year at Musideum, each month Brown appearing with 1 other mystery musician -- could be piano, could be bass, could even turntables - who knows! Each duet showcasing Brownmans lesser known introspective & self-reflective playing approach accompanied by a mystery +1 each month.
