TROOP C - NEWS RELEASE December 28, 2014 18 Year Old Passenger Killed Yesterday Evening in Lafourche Parish Crash Lockport, LA- Shortly before 8 pm yesterday evening, an 18 year old Galliano man was killed when the vehicle he was riding in traveled off the road and struck a tree in Lafourche Parish. The investigation revealed that a 2008 Lincoln MKZ was traveling south on LA 1, south of the Valentine Bridge, in Lockport, LA. The Lincoln was being driven by Colby Callais, (W/M age 19) of Larose, LA. For unknown reasons, the Lincoln failed to negotiate a left hand curve on LA 1 and traveled off the left side of the roadway. After leaving the roadway, the Lincoln struck a tree on the passenger side of the vehicle. Callais, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to Ochsner St. Anne General Hospital with moderate injuries. The front seat passenger in the Lincoln, Evan Danos, (W/M age 18) of Galliano, LA, was also transported to Ochsner St. Anne General Hospital. Danos, who was wearing a seat belt, died shortly after his arrival at the hospital from his injuries sustained in the crash. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. Blood was taken from Callias and the test results will be pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. This crash remains under investigation. Troopers remind motorists of the dangers of impaired driving. While there have been fewer deaths associated with impaired driving in recent years, there is still much room for improvement. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash. Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police. Contact Information: Tfc.
