TUNE IN TO THE SHOW ON WEDNESDAY: DOLLAROCRACY / BRAZIL / EGYPT Wednesday at 9:00 our show begins with Dollarocracy: How the Money and Media Election Complex is Destroying America, a new book about the commercialization of U.S. elections. We are joined by the book’s authors: John Nichols, Washington Correspondent for The Nation, contributing writer for The Progressive and In These Times and associate editor of The Capital Times, the daily newspaper in Madison, Wisconsin; and Robert McChesney, author of Digital Disconnect: How Capitalism is Turning the Internet Against Democracy and professor of communications at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Then at 10:00, we discuss the latest news from Brazil, where demonstrations against bus fare hikes have ballooned into massive anti-government protests. We are joined by three activists from that country: Claudia Costabile, Fabio Olivia, and Rosana Sanford. At 10:30 we turn to Egypt, where protests against the Morsi government, and counter-protests supporting it, have erupted across the country. Our guests include: Adil Shamoo, associate fellow of the Institute for Policy Studies in Washington, DC; Shahira Amin, former deputy head of the state-run Nile TV and former contributor to CNN; and Gamal Nkrumah, editor and columnist at al-Ahram Weekly.
