Teens and college ladies...Dana Gresh has a challenge for you! You in? No-men-allowedThe challenge is not for the weak of heart. No guys, just God for ten days. And it takes time. Rising early. Staying up late. Feasting on God doesn’t come without cost. But here’s what girls who take the Ten Day Love Feast say when they are finished: “Before this, I didn’t know how to pray.” “I had no idea I could FEEL this way about God.” “I asked my boyfriend to take a break so I could feast on God. He said it was a great idea and he totally got into a new groove with his prayer life, too.” “This changed my prayer life forever.” “Waking up at 4:30am to do the Love Feast gave me MORE energy in my day, not less.” If you’re a girl like me, who needs some accountability for such fasting from guys and feasting on God November is your month! We’re going to do it together from November 17-26, coming up for air just in time to eat a lot of turkey on Thanksgiving Day! If you’ve got what it takes, RSVP below. How to RSVP to the Love Feast Take guys off the table. Yep. You read that right. Whether or not you are dating, I want you to step away from guys and step up to a real love relationship with God. Ask Him what this should look like for you. If you are not dating, don’t even consider it for the duration of this love feast. If you are in a serious dating relationship, ask your guy if he’d support you by taking a short break in which you can both focus on God or come up with a creative way to put God first. Whatever it takes, for ten days put your focus wholly on God. Set aside the best part of your day to get lost in God. I’m not talking about fifteen minutes before you rush out the door or a sleepy prayer before you fall asleep each night. I’m asking you to give Him the best part of your day, and as much of it as He wants. Personally, I can’t really feel the Presence until I’ve spent a good twenty minutes or so in quiet reflection, and then I am just beginning to hear Him. I decided years ago that I need an hour a day with the Lord. Or more. Don’t be stingy with your time. Give it to God. I also want to encourage you to make this the first part of your day. If, like me, you are not a morning person, that makes this sacrifice all the more meaningful. There are two reasons why I believe giving Him the first minutes of your morning is more effective than giving Him another part of your day. Scripture makes frequent mention of meeting with God in the morning. Here is one of my favorites: I rise before dawn and cry for help, I wait for Your words. Psalm 119:147, nasb Whatever part of your day that you give him, don’t cheat. Write it down. Put it in you smart phone. Do whatever it takes to protect that time of your day! I’ll help you remember if you follow me on Facebook or Twitter. Each day November 17-26 I’ll be posting various prompts on social media, as well as one here at the blog. Start each prayer time by focusing your heart. I don’t know about you, but many days I am just not that into my prayer time. My heart is unfocused, easily distracted, and the language of prayer feels foreign on my lips. Can you identify? I would like to ask you to spend the first ten to fifteen minutes of your daily love feast making sure your heart is focused. Let me suggest two of my favorite strategies to accomplish this. First, you focus your heart by immersing yourself in worship. Worship unlocks our hearts and opens us up to God’s Spirit. He dwells where there is worship. That is, He settles in that place and fills it up. I, for one, can feel it when He does. This is no mystical hoax. It is written in the Word that God comes to settle where we praise. Psalm 22:3 reads, “And thou art holy, thou that dwellest amid the praises of Israel” (Darby). I’ve suggested some songs you can soak in at the beginning of each day, but you know what best draws you into worship. A second option to focus your heart is to pray Scripture out loud. I don’t know about you, but some mornings I wake up and don’t feel like praying. When our hearts are unwilling to pray, we can be certain we are in a thick battle. Ephesians 6:10–18, the apostle Paul’s description of spiritual warfare, lists our battle gear for such fights, only one piece of which is used to attack. The sword of the Spirit, which is clearly identified as the written Word of God, is the sole item in our armor that is intended for offensive, rather than defensive, battle. On days when our hearts are being assaulted with unwillingness to draw near, we must go on the offense and conquer the enemy with the Scriptures. You can do this love feast best by using Get Lost: A Girl’s Guide To Finding True Love. The book will provide verses each day that I have paraphrased into a prayer. For an extra powerful dose of battle fuel, simply pray these words out loud! (If you want to try to do the love feast without the book, have at it! Just feast on Scriptures about God’s love.) Feast on God’s love. Read the love feast chapter of the day or just spend time focused on reading the word and in prayer if you don’t have the book. If you choose to use the book, you’ll dine daily at a banquet table filled with truths about His love. Each morning, I’ll help you learn to identify counterfeit, man-made concepts of love and develop a hunger for God’s love. If you don’t use the book, use your Bible concordance to look up verses and passages on love. (I really do recommend you use the book, but dig deeply if you do not.) Write Your Story. Journaling your heart back to God in love will help you feast.
