Telemarketer Call This Morning. Me: Good Morning, this is Jay? Random: Hi, my name is Sarah how are you...good!? MISTAKE 1 - Dont ever call someone up you dont know and say how are you!? and then answer good before I even say anything!? Firstly, you dont know them and the only answer is going to be, good. Me: (thinking, telemarketer - change of energy) - GOOD. Her: Next Wednesday there is event starting at 7.30pm where NAME is teaching people how to RETIRE from working 9-5 and also invest in city real estate. MISTAKE 2 - You havent even introduced where you are from. You havent even qualified me to know if Im even working 9-5 and if Im at the stage I want to retire. Me: (pauses and thinks) Do I say, no thanks and hang up OR do I really tell her the truth? (just finished gym feeling good) Yeah these telemarketers need to learn how to cold call properly Me: (actually saying) Can I be honest with you? Her: (pauses) okay... Me: Firstly, you cant call people up, and say, how are you when you dont know them. Secondly, you need to qualify the person youre calling and find out if they want to retire and working 9-5... Her: (butts in) So what you are saying, is you dont work 9-5 and you dont want to retire within the next few years? Me: No. Her: Are you studying? Me: No. Her: (pauses) Me: So as I was saying, you need to qualify the person as this wont waste your time on the phone and if I was the guy you are selling Id be really disappointed in your cold calling skills to get people to his event. Her: (pauses) okay... Me: Look I usually wouldnt care with this stuff, but today I felt like I should speak up. I hope this call is getting recorded because all you guys need to learn and understand. Her: (nothing to say) Me: (smiles) Have a great day. When will companies understand that what theyre doing, isnt working. Open to your constructive thoughts.
