Texas born Jeannie Carolyn Stephenson moved to Nashville in 1966 and worked as a secretary, while doing record demos as Jeannie C. Riley on the side. Relatively unknown song writer Tom T. Hall penned Harper Valley P.T.A and the rest is history. The song made the biggest jump to this day in Billboard history, jumping from its entry position at #82, to #7 in one week... a jump of 75 positions.. then on to #1 the following week.
