Thank you Laura Gilkey for sending this out! FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE FLORIDA SCHOOL OF TRADITIONAL MIDWIFERY LAUNCHES WOLLHEIM MEMORIAL FUND Sarasota, FL (November 14, 2014) – The Florida School of Traditional Midwifery, a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization offering direct-entry midwifery education in Gainesville, Florida, has launched a crowdfunding campaign for The Wollheim Memorial Fund, an initiative to assist student midwives. The Wollheim Memorial Fund was initiated by the family of Jennifer Wollheim Magnet Devine in 2011. Jennifer was a Florida Licensed Midwife and graduated from the Florida School of Traditional Midwifery in 2003. Before attending FSTM, Jennifer was a birth doula, birth assistant, and childbirth education instructor. After graduation, she worked at several birth centers and owned her own home birth practice. Jennifer passed away in June 2007 from eclampsia while employed by FSTM as our Clinical Director and by The Birth Center of Gainesville as a staff midwife. The Wollheim Memorial Fund assists student midwives by providing a financial safety net for emergency situations that may hinder student progress. This safety net allows students to remain focused on their studies, thus smoothing the demanding path of becoming competent licensed midwives in service to their communities. This year, Florida School of Traditional Midwifery has pledged 20% of donations to the Safe Motherhood Quilt Project, a national effort to bring visual awareness to the rising rate of maternal mortality in the United States. There is a quilt square honoring Jennifer as part of this project. Tax-deductible donations may be made to the Florida School of Traditional Midwifery by check at 810 East University Avenue, 2nd Floor, Gainesville, Florida, 32601. Donations may also be made online at indiegogo/projects/support-the-future-of-midwifery. ### About The Safe Motherhood Quilt Project: The Safe Motherhood Quilt Project is a national effort intended to raise visual awareness about the rising rate of maternal deaths in this country, and highlight the need for a coordinated mandatory effort to report and analyze these deaths.
