Thank you all. It was a day that almost caused my grandson, Dayton, and I to just about give in ands say,Okay, Poppy wasnt meant to have a birthday dinner! First, I could not find my camera to see if I needed batteries, then, I managed within an hour to lose; my purse, my favorite cd, my checkbook, my grocery list and, to top it off , my car keys. I finally gave in and asked Scott if I could borrow his car to go get the cake I ordered. We get to the store(STORE) and it takes my soon to be 11 year old grandson, to show me every toy he wanted for HIS birthday, next Monday...We finally think that we have everything that we went after and go to get the cake that I had ordered the previous day. I went to the bakery and asked for the cake that I had ordered that said, Happy Birthday, Poppy! and a red guitar. Okay, now it gets worse....She brings this cake to me. This has to be the ugliest cake that I have ever seen...Happy Birthday, Poppy!, was great. However, if I hadnt ordered it, I would have not known it was a guitar....Dayton looks at me and saysNani, what is that red thing?.. I knew that I had to do something, but what? I decided to just take the cake and tell Clyde what it was. I went up to check out and the checkout lady asked me,What is that on your cake?. Now, it was confirmed. I could not take this cake home to Clyde. I told her that I was on a time limit and needed to get home to do other things. She called the bakery manager. He, too, asked what was on the cake. By this time, Dayton and I are just laughing...I explained the situation. She said to come back to bakey and they would fix it right. I go back to the bakery with him. Of course, I am ashamed for upsetting this very nice lady, who got very, very mad at me. Dayton just starts laughing. Finally,I said, Can I just pick out another cake, you write, Happy Birthday, Poppy, and I will just pay for both? I have got to get home. Fine, she says, very angry. SO, Dayton and I start looking for a toy guitar...Oh my! Wrong idea. We searched that store all over. No guitar. We did look at a Barbie doll, but Dayton vetoed that Idea fast. Then, we decided to go get the gel, get some candles, and I would write, Highway 13 Band on it when we got home. Seemed like a good idea at the time. We go and get the new cake. The the old cake has been taken to the, Service Desk? So, we go there and the line is unbelievable. We go up and look and our cake is not there. I said,Dayton, We did not get candles. So, we go back to the isle where the candles should be. Nope, that was not easier either. So, Dayton finds a musical candle. We get it. I said, Dayton, Lets check out the new things we have gathered and just check out. If I need to come back tomorrow, I will just keep the receipt from both cakes and get it straightened out then. So, we start to leave and realize that we didnt have the cards. So, back we go. By this time, my headache had progressed to a migraine. We go get a Happy Fathers Day card for Scott, Dayton picks out a Happy Grandpa Card and I get a Happy Birthday, Husband card. If was difficult to get Dayton to understand why it was not really appropriate to get a card with an old mans back to the card. On the front of the card was an old man and his pants were about half way down. The question is, When should you tell an older man that his butt crack is showing? Dont worry about it, you will be told soon.!. We laughed and laughed, but he got another that was not going to need an explanation to his younger brother. So, we go to pay for our newly acquired merchandise. There was a SD card for the camera in the basket. As I put it across the scanner, it started making the most ear piercing noise that I ever heard. The lady that was working said to just go on, the buzzer would go off, but keep going. Dayton started laughing again, and my head is pounding. So, we pay and walk out the door, sure enough, there it went. Dayton said, Nanny, just keep going! He was laughing so hard. We decide that we are going to TCBY and get some sugar free frozen yogurt for Scott, he is a Type 1 diabetic. He really needed the sugar free,to be fair. So, I call TCBY and ask if I could get a quart of their sugar free frozen yogurt. She said yes we could, but could we give her about 15 minutes, she was really busy? Sure, why not? So, I told Dayton, that is was Happy Hour at Sonic and lets go get something to drink because we could not turn off the car or the cake will melt, No problem??? Well, I ordered a Sprite with the peach flavoring and Dayton ordered a Dr. Pepper. When, they bring them to us, I paid and we started to leave. I took a drink, looked at Dayton, and he and asked,Whats wrong, Nani?, with a big smile on his face. I said this doesnt have any peach flavoring. I thought about leaving, then decided that I actually wanted the peach flavoring. At least thi was not a problem, they just brought me the flavoring and I did it myself. Now, we are on our way to TCBY. I started thinking about Dayton. I didnt know that there was a drive thru, which my son pointed out when i got home!!!! So, I called and asked if they would let my grandson take my debit card and get the yogurt? I could not leave him in a running car. They said that that was okay. Then, Dayton starts asking, Nani, whats you pin number? What if they ask for the zip code? I gave him my pin number, asked him what the zipcode was?(he knew) and told him that I would be watching every step. It took about 30 seconds for him to do this. Thank God for grandsons. Then, we go home. After arriving, I realize that it will not be long before Clyde would be home. He was taking off early so the whole family could be there. Hurriedly, I try to put, Highway 13 Band on the cake. Then,I decide that I would put some musical notes on the cake. Not,a bad idea, except I put a dollar sign on the cake and he, not knowing of our adventures, pointed out to me first thing. Oh yes, by the way, the musical candle was lost. So, we used 5 little candles with an eight beside it. We ordered pizza, Brad came over and it was a wonderful night. One that Dayton and I will never forget. I have some wonderful pictures. At least I remembered the batteries. And, a good time was had by all!!! Oh, one more thing. Dayton found my keys. I had left them next to Ethans toy box while I was looking for toys for him to play in the sandbox!!! Yeah, Dayton!!!! Love that Boy!!! Amen, now I just need to get through the second or August, Daytons eleventh birthday, and I can relax until October. Then, Brad will be next. Oh, the musical candle was found under the table......Of course if was...where else would it be???? about an hour ago · Edited · Like Connie Simkins-Atchley
