Thank you everyone. We appreciate your heartfelt condolences. Its so hard to wrap my head around it. I cant help but feel frustration. Seeing the photos on line yesterday was really hard in more ways than one. I couldnt help but try to process what happened from looking at them. What I can say is this: It will be very difficult for the driver to carry this burden. That is sad and is only one layer of this tragedy. This is a burden anyone could have to carry at some point no matter where fault lies or how well you drive. Distracted driving could have just as easily caused something like this. Its easy to forget how dangerous vehicles can be. I think it is very important that we as a community and as families evaluate and assist our loved ones to help them make good choices when it comes to taking on the responsibility of driving a motor vehicle. Accidents can happen this is true but some can be avoided. While the touchy subject of loosing ones independence is a difficult one to broach, it is necessary. Often families are put in this difficult situation of having to impose this on their loved ones and it can create stress in a family. I wish MPIC would change their policies on re-evaluating drivers abilities as anyone who holds a license should be able to pass a drivers test at any time. I know other provinces have policy in place that requires drivers over the age of 70 to retest. Why doesnt Manitoba follow suit? I pray those of you who have a loved one driving and know in your heart that they should not be driving that you have the courage to have that difficult conversation with them and take necessary steps. I would rather watch my loved one anguish over loss of independence than being responsible for someones death. I encourage all motorcyclists to reduce your speed at ALL intersections especially if someone is coming from the other direction and expect that they may cut you off at any time. I encourage all vehicle motorists to respect and take extra care near motorcyclists. They are somebodies loved ones and so vulnerable. I also encourage motorists to take that much caution near bicyclists too. Know that, I do not know many specifics about the crash, I am going by photos, witness reports and my observation of the scene in person. Thinking about the possibilities of what may have happened. Details will not be known until the investigation is done we were told. You think a lot about how things may have gone down and what those things would mean. What I wrote above are thoughts that crossed my mind. Tell the people in your life how much you love them every day, every chance you get. Forgiveness is a gift best given. You cannot show someone you love them too soon, you never know how soon it will be too late. I am touched and thank you all for your kindness.
