Thanks Ashutosh Sir for reminding my story so far...:) A few years back when hectic hot and cold discussions were held on Orkut Bihar page, I met a young gentleman who seemed very passionate about making films based in Bihar. After an elaborate documentary BRING BACK BIHAR, he went about knocking every pillar, post, door, window, ventilator number for support for making the first new age cinema in Bihar. As predicted - outside support did not come. Meanwhile, like a quintessential dreamer, his script was being written again and again, this cast was being finalized, his crew was getting their briefings and the creative, artistic and production side homework never really ceased. Respect for language, land, culture are values which people usually acquire from the family. While the search was on, Neetu Chandra, on witnessing the elaborate homework, decided to chip in with support and the project began started taking shape. Here I would like to mention, that I believe her participation was more as a producer rather than a family member. She was not supporting a brother - she was commencing a film production house of her own in partnership with someone whose inherent talent she had the opportunity to be a close witness. The production people stayed true to their resolve - almost the entire shooting was done in Bihar, almost all the cast and crew were from Bihar. And even the token release for eligibility in the National Awards was done in Bihar. It became the first Bhojpuri film to achieve honors of being invited to various film festivals around the world. Yesterday, the film DESWA was screened at Toronto to a packed audience of Bihar / Jharkhand / UP diaspora. And the film got a standing ovation. There are other screenings happening there too, to private audiences. And from what I understand, the ball for the film has STARTED rolling. It will only become bigger, grander and faster. A huge congratualtions to Nitin Neera Chandra for his steadfast, stubborn and at times irritating single-minded dedication to his belief, his cause. Cheers and waiting for more.
