That phrase so beloved of the Curia, illegal boat people and the - TopicsExpress

That phrase so beloved of the Curia, illegal boat people and the general demonising of people smugglers, has reared its ugly head again. Il Papa Abbotto and his sidekicks are slapping themselves on their collective backs because there have been no arrivals for 100 days. Lets get a few things straight. 1. Its the Government policy which is illegal. It is contrary to Australias obligations under the United Nations Convention on refugees. Simple. 2. Operation Sovereign Borders is the military operation style name enforcing the Governments illegal policy. The refusal of the Curia to give us any details of the operation is a sure sign of feeling guilty. 3. The cruel and brutal imprisonment of refugee seekers in Nauru and Manus Island is also illegal. More than that, it is inhuman and we should all be ashamed to have these atrocities perpetrated in our names. 4. Even the financing arrangements for all this are all wrong. The cost is being met out of our nations foreign aid budget. That is, from money which was earmarked to alleviate starvation and suffering in underprivileged countries. If you would like to think that some of your money is being used for humanitarian aims, bad luck. 5. People smugglers exist to meet a demand. For so long as we refuse to comply with our legal obligations under the UN Convention, they will stay in business. Let the refugees in = end of people smuggling. Could be done overnight. 6. Next time the sanctimonious genius utters the term Illegal boat people, think: Which laws are they breaking?; How can they b reak our laws when they havent got here yet?; Whos really breaking the law?
