The 1st Review of Harlis Sweetwater Bands Album Put It In Dirt - TopicsExpress

The 1st Review of Harlis Sweetwater Bands Album Put It In Dirt From Blues Magazine in Norway By Eric Campfens: Born, raised and still living in California you expect Harlis Sweetwater playing cheerful, sunny Westcoast Blues. But none of this, Sweetwater stands up to his knees in the clay of the Mississippi Delta . This is immediately apparent from the first track of his second album Put It In Dirt. In this song, Goin Up The Mountain , he begins solo with just vocals and acoustic slide guitar, but quickly the band falls in and what follows is a piece of pure high energy blues. In the second song Anna Lee he takes back the pace we get a soulful sung song, in which the soul is additionally accentuated by the use of horns. And so we are taken on a journey through the Mississippi Delta blues with eleven songs, ranging from smooth rockers (Goin Up The Mountain, Dont Keep Me Waiting), pure blues (Cornbread Blues, Coolant Blues), soul blues (Anna Lee, Crosstown Woman) and even a bit of country (12th Street Lonesome Blues). I already found Sweetwaters first album, Lights Goin Down, great and this sequel is at least as good. The only point of criticisms I had at the time is that I found it too short. On the new CD this no longer applicable. We get over 51 minutes of great blues. Highly recommended .
