The 48th NYs other notable action during the Bermuda Hundred - TopicsExpress

The 48th NYs other notable action during the Bermuda Hundred Campaign came on May 16th, 1864, near the outer works of Fort Darling (Drewrys Bluff.) Here, a Confederate counterattack blunted the advance of the Federals forces under Generals Smith (XVIII Corps) & Gilmore (X Corps), precipitating a retreat back to Federal lines back on the Bermuda Hundred peninsula. The modern day pictures (taken during my recent visit to the region) shows the 48th NYs position at the time of the CSA counterattack.
