The 68th General Assembly authorized a Memorial Commission to erect a statue of General of the Armies, John J. Pershing on the grounds of the Missouri State Capital. The Sculptor for the statue was Carl Mose of St. Louis, Missouri and the Roman Bronze Works Inc of Corona, New York was the bronze cast. The 74th General Assembly authorized its relocation to the boyhood home of General Pershing in Laclede. The Pershing Park Memorial Association and the Missouri State Park Board held the dedication of the Pershing Statue in Laclede, Sunday October 20, 1968. A band concert by the 371st United States Army Band of Fort Leavenworth preceded the program. "Taken from the Laclede Civil Club Cookbook"
