The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) challenges union health minister Dr Harsh Vardhan to prove his claims made over the last two days that the Central Vigilance Commission had rejected or opposed the appointment of whistleblower officer Saneev Chaturvedi as the Chief Vigilance Officer of AIIMS. The health minister is changing his stand everyday and is making false statements in a desperate bid to wriggle out of his unjustified and untenable decision to compromise with corruption by having shunted out a honest officer on the instructions of BJP leadership. The health minister had tweeted on Friday (August 22) that Chaturvedi had been twice rejected by the CVC and that his continuation as CVO of AIIMS was “irregular and indefensible”. The minister on Saturday changed his stand from rejection to opposition by the CVC in 2012 and 2013. The AAP dares the health minister to put in public domain any document which has support his claim. The fact is that the CVC did not either reject or oppose Chaturvedi’s appointment as the CVO of AIIMS, a clarification sought by the commission is being twisted and wrongly presented by the health minister to mislead the country in a desperate bid to divert attention since his direct compromise with corruption now stands fully exposed. In his statement issued by the health ministry on Saturday, Dr Harsh Vardhan has stated that he will impose 500 % transparency and will adopt zero tolerance towards corruption. In case he is serious, then Dr Harsh Vardhan should answer the following queries on basic facts related to this issue : Is it not a fact that the health ministry had written to the AIIMS administration on May 23 this year that Chaturvedi is an exemplary officer and is doing an excellent work as CVO ? Is it not a fact that in the same letter the ministry had made it clear that Chaturvedi’s appointment meets all statutory requirements and this matter be treated as closed ? Can Dr Harsh Vardhan answer why he reopened the issue when health ministry had settled it just less than three months back ? Is it not a fact that BJP’s national general secretary JP Nadda had been consistently trying since last two years to get Chaturvedi removed as AIIMS CVO, since he had ordered a probe into a Rs 350 crore scam involving an officer close to Nadda ? Is it not a fact that Dr Harsh Vardhan himself overturned the Medical Council of India (MCI) and the CBI recommendations of initating major penalty proceedings against a senior AIIMS doctor for having accepted favours from a private college ? What is the reason behind Dr Harsh Vardhan’s refusal to take action against this doctor within four days of becoming the health minister, despite there being clear proof of her involvement in a corrupt act ? Can Dr Harsh Vardhan answer whether the predecessor and successor of Chaturvedi to the post of CVO were appointed after taking the CVC approval ? Can the health minister state which provision of the CVC manual was violated in the appointment of Chaturvedi as AIIMS CVO ? The AAP will continue to expose the lies of the BJPs central government, which had promised the people a corruption free regime during its campaign for the Lok Sabha elections and is now doing exactly the opposite by protecting the corrupt and hounding honest officers with an exemplary record.
