The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party says no fewer than 229 aspirants are jostling for 36 elective positions in the state ahead of the 2015 elections. Details of the list obtained by our correspondent in Umuahia, on Thursday, indicated that eight aspirants are contesting for the governorship seat while 11, 50, and 160 are vying for the Senate, House of Representatives and the state House of Assembly respectively. Chairman of the PDP in the state, Senator Emma Nwaka, who released the document said the governorship aspirants included Ambassador Okey Emuchay, Chief Friday Nwosu, Chief Acho Nwakanma , Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu , Chief Mark Wabara , Chief Okezie Orji, Chief Emeka Wogu, and Dr. Uche Ogah. He said while Dr. Greg Ibe voluntarily withdrew from the race after purchasing the expression of interest and nomination forms, Senator Nkechi Nwaogu failed to present herself for the zonal screening at Enugu. A further breakdown of the list showed that while five aspirants each are contesting for the Abia-North senatorial seat and Abia-South senatorial seat respectively, only the incumbent governor, Theodore Orji, was running for the Abia-Central senatorial seat. On the other hand, 50 aspirants are contesting for the eight vacancies at the House of Representatives with Umuahia /Ikwuano federal constituency and Ukwa East/Ukwa-West federal constituency parading the highest number with nine aspirants respectively
