The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) in United Kingdom has banned an ad for the BMW South Africa M4 Convertible. ASA analyzed the footage after receiving a complaint referring to the commercial as being socially irresponsible and that it also encouraged unsafe driving. In the video we can observe the high-performance Bavarian convertible being alternatively showcased in both racetrack and public road conditions, with ASA pointing out that in some of the scenes its hard to tell which setting is being shown. BMW responded immediately saying the two scenarios were clearly differentiated from each other but nevertheless ASA has decided the ad must not be aired anymore in its current form. They also told BMW to make sure their future commercials wont link racetrack and road driving styles in a way that focused on speed or encourage a manner of driving that would be irresponsible.
