The Animal Care Society, a no-kill adoption center for dogs & cats, has a part-time position open for a Cleaner/Adoption Counselor. Please SHARE-- someone you know may be looking for a part-time position. Applicants MUST: 1. Have prior experience working with dogs & cats (e.g. working at a vet’s office, doggie daycare, grooming salon, petsitting, pet store, etc. Simply owning either or both does not qualify as experienced) 2. Be physically able to lift up to 50 lbs; crawl in & out of crates; & control dogs weighing up to 75 lbs 3. Not have an aversion to feces, urine, vomit, intestinal parasites, foul odors, etc. This position WILL expose you to all of them on a regular basis 4. Be detail-oriented, quick-thinking, & possess a great deal of common sense 5. Have reliable transportation & be dependable which means showing up when needed regardless of weather, school cancellations, sitter problems, car trouble, etc. We have a very small staff & we are dealing with a live product that has specific needs that must be attended to on a regular & timely basis 6. Be comfortable with & have a general affection for animals 7. Have high moral standards & a good work ethic 8. Be FLEXIBLE - morning shifts start as early as 7:00AM & end between 11AM & 1PM; afternoon shifts begin either at 2pm or 3pm & end between 5pm & 7pm. Shifts are 7 days a week so applicant MUST BE ABLE TO WORK WEEKENDS & HOLIDAYS. CLEANING daily duties include, but are not limited to, preparing food bowls (adhering to specified feeding guidelines) & distributing food bowls; cleaning crates, kennels, & rooms housing dogs &/or cats; cleaning & refilling litter boxes; sweeping & mopping floors; cleaning interior & exterior windows; washing dishes; washing, drying, folding, & putting up laundry; bathing dogs (and sometimes cats); medicating animals; poop-scooping yards & outside kennels; hosing down outside kennels; ensuring on a regular basis that water bowls in outside kennels & yards are full of clean water; rotating dogs from inside to outside kennels/yards; & walking dogs. ADOPTION COUNSELOR daily duties include, but are not limited to, answering phones, greeting & escorting potential adopters through the shelter to view & meet our adoptable dogs and cats, answering questions about specific animals as needed, calling veterinarians & references, typing up adoptions, & explaining paperwork to the adopters. The person who fills this position must have proficient typing skills, basic computer skills, be able to operate office machines (e.g. printer, fax, credit card machine, etc.), have a neat appearance, & possess good listening and communication skills. An abundance of patience is vital. Adoption Counselors, as with all our employees regardless of title, must be willing to step in & help other staff as needed.
