The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria is disappointed that a Washington Post blog chose to run a post that attempts to dissuade people from adopting dogs from shelters. The article is one womans account of her experience with three shelter dogs -- a Boston terrier and two pugs. The two pugs became ill early in life and the pug at the age of ten. From these three experiences, the author makes the huge leap to the idea that shelter and rescue dogs are a crapshoot. Stories from people who adopted shelter dogs successfully abound. Consider adding your positive experiences adopting shelter dogs to the end of the Washington Post article. Please encourage the Post to publish an article that does not unfairly villainize animal shelters as the source of unhealthy dogs and, instead, examines the real reasons people abandon dogs and highlights the many wonderful aspects of adopting a pet from a shelter. washingtonpost/posteverything/wp/2014/07/17/why-id-never-adopt-a-shelter-dog-again/?hpid=z7
