The Chicago, Aurora, and Elgin was an interurban in the western - TopicsExpress

The Chicago, Aurora, and Elgin was an interurban in the western suburbs of Chicago. Today, its all a bike path. Out of fifty miles of trail, only two pieces of track remain: A piece of track that was part of the service years in Wheaton, IL, and a concrete rail about eight feet long embedded in much newer concrete in the trail itself in Batavia. Neither rail has had a wheel turn over it in half a century - the abandonment was infamous because the railroad literally shut down midday, meaning that people who took the train into the city in the morning were stranded in the evening!
