The Coasters - Searchin Interesting to learn that two gentlemen, Leiber and Stoller, created some of the greatest rock and roll hits in the late 1950s before the British Invasion hit our shores; such hits like Searchin Young Blood, Charlie Brown Poison Ivy, Little Egypt and hits for Elvis (Hound Dog, Jailhouse Rock -to name a few) Also hits for the Coasters, Big Mama Thornton, Ray Charles, Ruth Brown, the Drifters, Ben E. King and other soul bands. I grew up listening to these great songs which I still love!!! Out of nowhere, The British Invasion hit us in1964 and we have been rocking ever since. Rock music, in all its forms helped to knock down the doors of racism. You see Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller were two Jewish guys who loved R&B and lived their passion back in the 1950s. Creating songs that moved our souls and feet. Information from Sounding Out Pop Edited by Mark Stuart Spicer and John Covach, 2010 PS Mark Spicer heads the cover band Bernadette He is a great scholar!!!! This weekend more on the British Invasion in music: Welcoming The Zombies back to the states with Eric Burton & The Animals and Christopher Cross 8-D
