The Color of Our Skin... When I was young I learned about Martin Luther Kings famous speech, and was inspired by what I heard. The dream of living in a world where race no longer mattered, where a person would be judged by the content of their character instead of the color of their skin is a wonderful dream. We live in a Country where even the bill of rights proclaims that all men were created equal, with equal inalienable rights...granted it took us a while to get through the sinfulness of slavery, but we have started the march toward a brighter future thanks to some brave men and women of every color. We children of God are one family, not many! We cannot allow any person, newscast or group of people to take us backward from the goal of equality among all the peoples of this great country. Racism is rampant in every color, and there are those in every group who would rather we regress to a time of deep and repugnant hatred based upon the color of another persons skin. We cannot allow ourselves to be drawn into this hatred, instead, we should be standing up for truth, peace and understanding. We cannot allow ourselves to perpetuate lies to further a cause that seeks to destroy the cohesiveness of all Americans, but rather should seek out and support those who strive for peace and harmony, who value truth over discord and character over dishonorable actions. When somebody tells you that you have an obligation to be angry, we need to tell them that we are called to a higher purpose, where love and forgiveness are greater emotions...where healing and salvation of the soul are our true cause. Suffering the consequences of breaking the law, speaking out against those who violate this countries sovereignty, and judging a person on their immoral behavior is NOT racism...Repressing, insulting, and degrading a person based simply upon the color of their skin is, and should be confronted by every people group of this great country! We are all Americans after all, all of the blood that was shed to protect this great country and its principles was red, regardless of the vessel that contained it. We are all children of the almighty God, Brothers and Sisters united by a cross, not by the color of our skin, and I would willingly stand up for my family, regardless of their pigmentation, so long as they are faithful and right. Red, yellow, black, brown and white...We are all precious in His sight...so why do we allow ourselves to still be blind to character, but sensitive to color? Yes, we have a long way to go, but I am willing to move forward with anybody who will walk beside me, to speak the truth regardless of color/ethnicity, and through our example we may change the world for Christ! Together we can! You are my family so long as you believe in Jesus...period. _____ I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality. I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word. ---Martin Luther King, Jr. Be not proud of race, face, place, or grace. ---Charles Spurgeon Because I had been a basketball player, it never dawned on me to evaluate people on the basis of color. If you could play, you could play. In America it would appear that there is more openness, acceptance, and teamwork in the gym than in the church of Jesus Christ. ---Jim Cymbala The idea of preaching the gospel to all nations alike, regardless of nationality, of internal divisions as to rank and color, complexion and religion, constituted the beginning of a new era in history. You cannot preach the gospel in its purity over the world, without proclaiming the doctrine of civil and religious liberty,--without overthrowing the barriers reared between nations and clans and classes of men,--without ultimately undermining the thrones of despots, and breaking off the shackles of slavery,--without making men everywhere free. ---Albert Barnes _____ John 7:24 ESV, Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment.” Romans 10:12 ESV, For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. 1 John 2:9 ESV, Whoever says he is in the light and hates his brother is still in darkness. Genesis 1:27 ESV, So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. John 13:34 ESV, A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. James 2:9 ESV, But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors. Romans 2:11 ESV, For God shows no partiality.
