The Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in Katsina State, has threatened to sue the state House of Assembly for ``illegal suspension' of a member representing Malumfashi Constituency, Alhaji Abdullahi Mahuta. CPC spokesman, Alhaji Muntari Lawal, made this known in Katsina at a news conference. Lawal advised the house to rescind its decision or else the party would take legal action because it was ``illegal and unconstitutional' to suspend Mahuta. The house suspended Mahuta, the Minority Leader, for allegedly accusing the legislature of not performing its oversight functions. Mahuta, however, told the house while defending himself, that N400 million approved for Science and Technical Education Board in 2013 was released. Lawal said the major actors on the issue should deny the allegations with facts and figures instead of resorting to ``unconstitutional and illegal decision'. He said the party investigations showed that N6 billion was approved for Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, Katsina, but only N800 million was released for expenditure. According to him, N100 million is approved for Isah Kaita College of Education as against N339 million for Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic, Katsina, but no money had been released to the institutions. He, therefore, urged the state government to hasten implementation of 2013 budget in the interest of democracy and development of the state. Lawal also urged those involved in the matter to immediately resolve it in the interest of democracy and progress of the state. ‘’The lawmaker in question has done the right thing by reminding the house of not doing its constitutional duty of oversight function,’’ he said.
