The Cornet-Elect for 2014 is Kevin Smith. Kevin came to Peebles with his family when he was 3 years old. He attended Kingsland Primary and Peebles High School. Like our Cornet Daniel, Kevin has a passion for music. He joined the Silver Band as a junior and following a time away from the band returned about 4 years ago. He also enjoys playing guitar. Kevin worked for Travis Perkins in Peebles for 9 years before setting up his own business, Technical Solutions, in early 2013. Cornet-Elects Lass for 2014 is Sharon Rusnak. Sharon was born and brought up in Peebles and has been active in Beltane from and early age. She has participated in the Fancy Dress parade many times over the years having been introduced to this by her Mum. She too attended Kingsland Primary school and High School before attending Telford College. On leaving school she worked for 14 years in the Sunflower Restaurant, initially as a waitress before moving on to Chef. She currently works in 1st Nursery. She and Kevin have an 8 year old daughter Hannah. The Warden of Neidpath for 2014 is Mrs Jacqueline Wilson Jacqueline as you all know is Headteacher of Kingsland Primary School. She was born and brought up in Hawick so Common Ridings and festivals are in her blood. After qualifying as a teacher she completed her probation in Walkerburn before moving to Priorsford in 1983. She moved to Kinssland in 1984 and became fully immersed in all that is Beltane. Jacqueline was appointed Headteacher of Trinity Primary in Hawick in 2004 before returning to Kingsland as Headteacher in 2006 just as the new build process had become a reality. Jacqueline served on this committee for 3 years and continues to work very closely with our committee, especially over the last two years as we moved to a new process of selecting the Beltane Queen. Crowning Lady for 2014 is Mrs Anne Snoddy. Anne and her husband Colin moved to Peebles 23 years ago and soon became fully involved in her adopted community. Anne was a cub leader for 10 years, latterly combining that with Assistant District Commissioner for Tweeddale. She was a volunteer in the Cancer research Shop for a number of years and has been with the Citizens Advice Bureau for 9 years and is their Social Policy Co-ordinator. Her community involvement continues with The Christmas Lights Association where she has been Secretary for the past 4 years, a member of the Community Council for the past year and committee member of Peebles Community Centre for the past 9 months. Anne enjoys Arts and Crafts and is particularly keen on calligraphy, from which the Beltane Committee benefits and watercolour painting. She regularly demonstrates her talents during Peebles Arts Festival. Our Warden of the Cross Kirk this year will be the Rev. Jim Benton Evans Jim moved to Peebles from Camelford in Cornwall almost 2 years ago with his wife and 3 children to become Rector of St Peters Episcopal Church. He admits to being a very proud and passionate Cornishman. He believes there is a commonality between Cornwall and the Borders as is evident from the local identity and importance of traditions. Jim was a civil servant and primary teacher before his ordination as a minister in 2003. He enjoys listening to music and playing ukulele and is also a keen on golf and cricket. He is a lifelong Plymouth Argyle supporter, and can be found most Saturday afternoon watching a football match. Jim is also involved with Peebles foodbank which was launched last year. Boundary Reader this year will be Nathaniel Buckingham. Nathaniel came to Peebles when he was one year old and attended Priorsford Primary School and Peebles High School. He is no stranger to Beltane and was first Courtier in 1995. He attended Durham University and later decided to take further study completing law at University of Edinburgh. He now works for law firm of Shepherd and Wedderburn as a trainee lawyer. Nathaniel still lives in Peebles and is married to Katy and has two young Children, William and Constance.
