The Edmond fire Department wants everyone to have a safe Thanksgiving. If you are planning to fry your turkey, remember these safety rules and be safe. Keep these 10 safety rules in mind; a fire in a fryer happens quickly and can be large. 1) Keep the fryer at least 10 feet from the home and on a hard surface. 2) Never use a turkey fryer on a wooden deck or inside the garage or home. 3) If you have a fire; put a lid on it and turn off the heat. 4) Keep a fire extinguisher close. 5) Make absolutely sure the turkey is completely thawed; a frozen turkey will boil over. 6) Fryers can easily tip over, spilling hot cooking oil over a large area. 7) An overfilled cooking pot or partially frozen turkey will cause cooking oil to spill when the turkey is inserted and will create a large uncontrollable fire. 8) A small amount of cooking oil coming into contact with the burner can cause a flash fire. 9) Without thermostat controls, deep fryers have the potential to overheat the oil to the point of combustion. 10) The sides of the cooking pot, lid and pot handles can get dangerously hot, creating severe burn hazards. youtube/watch?v=hQYTMFCLy5E
