The Father of the Bride speech for my gorgeous daughter Jodie Findlay (now Willoughby) & Adam C. Willoughby Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen INTRODUCTION For those of you who don’t know me I’m Eddie, Jodie’s dad, and on behalf of her Mum Lynne and myself, I would like to welcome you all here today to celebrate the marriage of our daughter Jodie to Adam. As my last attempt at reciting a speech from memory was nearly an embarrassing disaster I did consider asking for an autocue, but I believe the wedding budget had been stretched to capacity and any extras would have to be paid for by myself so – …(wave the cards) I suddenly realised that these cards would be good enough! In case I do miss anything I have just posted this on Jodie and Adam’s Facebook pages. THE WEDDING I would like to welcome Sally and Andy, our Adam’s Family (ta da da click click) as well as all the other relatives and friends who have travelled some considerable distances to be here for this special occasion. This venue already held a place in Jodie and Adam’s hearts and after today they will have even more reasons to remember this happy place. Thank you to Forest Pines for a wonderful day so far. MY DAUGHTER JODIE I could say a few embarrassing things about Jodie when she was younger but unfortunately she has been a prefect daughter. Jodie, you’ve spelt perfect wrong…, anyway, she probably has more ammunition against me than I have about her so I think it best to call a truce. Suffice it to say that Lynne and I are both very proud of all she has achieved and especially of how she looks today. As she grew up, there were many milestones along the way. First words, First steps, First day at school, First night out, with the girls from school, aged just 13!!! I was traumatised but I am getting it over it slowly. When Jodie was 6 years old we took her to buy her her first little Polly Pocket set; we came out of Toys “R” Us with a whole city of them and it was at this point that I realized my daughter had expensive taste. All parents hope their daughter will find a reliable and sensible partner and as they grow up, as much as you try not to interfere in their lives, you always hope your children will make the right choices in life. Jodie has certainly made a right choice with Adam. ADAM As I say, I think Jodie has made an excellent choice and as much as I welcome Adam into our Family we are all now part of Adam’s Family (ta da da click click). Adam, I hope that you will be able to keep my daughter in the lifestyle in which she has become accustomed (remember the Polly Pockets!!), but with a “mini moon” to Corfu AND a honeymoon to Aruba, I think you may have already realised that and I totally understand now why you changed from geography to law and with your chosen a career of barrister!! To help you with your marriage, I thought I would give you just one piece of advice.... Never go to bed in the middle of an argument – be a man stay up and watch some sport. Before I finish, I would just like to leave you with this thought… The actor Richard Burton once said that ‘a woman accepts a man for what he is and then spends the rest of her life trying to change him.’… So everybody, please take one last look at Adam as we know him, because Jodie’s remodelling work starts first thing in the morning. Finally, if you would all be upstanding, I would like you all to raise a glass for the health and happiness of Mr and Mrs Willoughby, the bride and groom! With too many others to mention but
