The Floating Maritime Heritage in the Canary Islands. The “BELLA - TopicsExpress

The Floating Maritime Heritage in the Canary Islands. The “BELLA LUCIA” & what a treasure she is! A typical Canarian schooner built in Las Palmas in 1881 & was used firstly, for international transport of fish between the Canary Islands & the Caribbean & afterwards domestic transportation within the Canary Islands. From 2002 she has been brought back to life & restored thanks to the private initiative of a local businessman for the intended use as a private yacht. The Canarian Gaff type Schooner had her entire work done in Lanzarote where she is fully restored & in service. LOA: 29,50m. Beam: 6,30m. The “Bella Lucia” is one of the few of the Canarian Floating Maritime Heritage that has been rescued, unlike the similar “San Miguel” (ex ”Ballester”) which was sadly destroyed & burned in 2012 in Gran Canaria. If these boats are over 60 or 100 years old & destroyed they will never return & the craftsmanship of our Ancestors will be lost forever. Please help to save our Floating Maritime Heritage.
