The Freedom Riders came to Montgomery, stayed in my parents house and when my Father held a Mass Meeting that night for them at his First Baptist Church in Montgomery after they were beaten by the KKK. The KKK found out about the Mass Meeting, since the police station was right across from the church, turned over car, set them on fire, trapping black people in the church until well after midnight, when Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy over road Alabama Gov. Patterson and sent in the National Guard to protect the Freedom Riders and the people attending the Mass Meeting at my Fathers Church. The following morning Uncle Martin, my Father, John Lewis and James Farmer of the Congress of Racial Equality held a Press Conference in my parents dining room. I was there that day!!!
