The Goa Government has released the State Youth Policy. If the wellbeing of the youth was really at heart, embedded in that policy would have been a firm commitment not to give any extension in service and contract appointments beyond the age of retirement. It would have ushered justice to the young unemployed and a ray of hope for those young officers awaiting promotion. In a clear act of nepotism the government has been selectively doling out extensions to favored officials. Instead of preparing to enjoy retirement, officers selfishly and shamelessly keep lobbying for extensions and Ministers are more than happy to oblige officers who readily dance to their tunes. It is appalling that these officers desperately try to cling to their positions although their time is up. As nobody is indispensable there needs to be a total embargo on this cruel injustice to the Youth. Infact the government should demonstrate its bonafides of its concern for the welfare of the youth by reverting the retirement age from 60 to 58 and bring hope to the jobless youth. This has been recently done by the BJP government after coming to power in Haryana. Will Goa follow suit for the sake of our youth? It is time the government empowers our youth by creating avenues for them. The future of Goa must be shaped and geared by them. The rancid pickle must make way for young blood. Benjamin Disraeli had rightly said “The Youth of a Nation are the trustees of posterity”.
