The House That Built Me I think I have stepped into the Twilight Zone. I can’t believe this is my life. After yet another health scare I was looking mortality straight in the face and it seems to have shaken me back to life after a long slumber. I feel the need to be living life out loud. Please bear with me I am a work in progress. I post for my benefit, in documenting my journey. I went one of my impromptu Sunday drives in my new car today after a trip to the grocery store. I found myself in Innis Arden. The neighborhood I grew up in. I pulled up in front of 17714 17th Ave NW and the people that bought my childhood home 11 years ago were in the driveway. I initiated a conversation and before I got a full sentence out the man said “you must be a McKinley.” I introduced myself and they invited me in. They took me through every corner of the house. Asked me what it was like for me when I lived there and showed me what they had done to make it theirs. We walked through the yard past the burials of pets I left behind and to the base of the tree where Grandpa built our tree house. I opened the door to the storage area under the stairs in the house and it smelled the same as it did when my siblings and I built forts under there. I just wanted to climb in and stay. They were kind, generous and knew they were living in a home that was filled with life and love by my family for over 30 years. We exchanged numbers and I was invited back anytime I want to visit. I am happy that this stuff doesnt only happen in movies and music videos. It is happening to me. I choose to call myself blessed.
