The House of Darkness: Part 2 Scriptures: Acts 16: 24-25 Psalm 138 Psalm 57 I Chronicles 29:12 Silas woke up to the sound of his own scream. “My God,” he choked as the force of his pain hit him instantaneously. “Be still and breathe through your mouth. The pain will not be so great.” Panting, Silas tried to see through the darkness. He could hear Paul’s steady breathing, but the cell was as black as pitch. He had never seen such blackness. With the loss of his sight, his other five senses were momentarily overwhelming. “Your legs,” Silas asked as he tried to steady his voice. “Mine are stretched apart…” for a moment he had to groan. Both of his hips throbbed to the beat of his heart; no longer could he feel his ankles or feet. “Paul… Your legs cannot possibly endure this,” Silas said as he envisioned Paul’s short, bowed legs stretched abnormally within the stocks. “My hip dislocated after my foot was placed in the second stock. I can no longer feel the pain.” Paul’s words were said softly, almost as if he were speaking of someone other than himself. “How can you endure…?” “Shh… Silas be still and feel His presence. He is here, my brother… be still; breath in His peace.” Silas heard Paul’s heavy, even breathing. It was continuous—a steady rhythm. Obediently, Silas drew in a deep breath. The stench was truly intolerable. Then he breathed again—deeply. “Ahh…” Even in the dark, Silas knew his sigh made Paul smile. “He is here.” And then Paul started to sing. Lydia’s home was overflowing with the righteous. Warfare was being proclaimed within her walls; believers in Jesus Christ petitioned their Savior on behalf of Paul and Silas. “Make them bold, my Lord, with the strength of our prayers…” “Shelter them beneath Your wing…” “Stretch forth Your hand against our enemies…” “In the name of Jesus, we declare victory!” Timothy’s proclamation was followed by hundreds of “Amen’s.” “Hear our prayers, my Lord,” Lydia said humbly, as she raised her arms and bowed her head. Tears flowed freely down her cheeks as she continued to pray. “Bring forth Your might!” Luke petitioned. And the voices of the church rose in both faith and volume. When the time of warfare was declared, hell began to tremble. Never before had righteous power gone forth in one accord from the city of Philippi; never before had such authoritative prayers from the children of The King been sent into battle against the actions of the damned. But now… As the godless of Philippi slept unaware within their homes, the warriors of Heaven continued to bombard the gates of hell. Soon, the earth would groan and its foundations would shake. The cries of the children of God had been heard, and the angels of the Almighty were being called into action. By dawn, the city of Philippi would never be the same.
