The Iranian parliament has passed a new law that enables religious hardliners and pro regime forces to act as moral police in enforcing hijab (Womens cover up based on sharia law) where they deem necessary. The new law insists that no organizations within the government is allowed to oppose the new extended jurisdictions. Based on the new law, in the event of any physical confrontation against the hijab enforcers, there would be severe punishments for the involved opposer. The ministers of the parliament also asked the relevant organizations to issue required permits for gatherings held in opposition of women with loose hijabs (insufficient cover ups). It is worth mentioning that this parliamentary request is made despite the fact that many people in Iran do not believe in mandatory hijab but they are never given the chance to express their belief or hold a gathering about it. The reason for passing of the new law is believed to be related to the death of a hijab enforcer in a conflict with members of the public earlier this year. He was stabbed with a knife in a physical confrontation 3 years ago and the coroner believes his recent death is related to that incident. He is now considered a martyr since he was enforcing sharia law at the time and the religious hardliners are demanding for strict laws to be passed in order to protect religious enforcers. via My Stealthy Freedom آزادی یواشکی زنان در ایران @SecularlyYours
