The Little Horn Daniel Chapter 8 As time went on, God was giving Prophet Daniel more interpretations to the first dream he interpreted. The Almighty God is a God of consistence. His words are sure. This Chapter Daniel saw yet another vision in a different form. This was the 3rd year of the reign of King Belshazzar, the son of Nebuchadnezzar. In Chapter five the king feasted with the vessel of God’s temple and saw a hand writing on the wall, telling him his days as the king of Babylon were numbered. The point here is that the beast (Kingdom) number one had been identified already and Belshazzar was to be the last King. Reading from verse 1-12 Daniel saw 1. The ram 2. The goat and 3. The little horn. Daniel was clearly givin the names of the kingdoms after the Babylonian Empire. The Ram would be the Medo-Perssian Empire (verse 20) while the Ram will be the Grecian Empire (verse 21). As at this time the little horn was still unknown to Daniel. Though a description of how the empires will emerge was given. Verse 3 the ram had 2 horns, that one was higher than the other. The Medo-persian Empire was made up of two kingdom and it was the Persian kingdom that was more prominent Verse 5 the goat had a notable horn between the eyes. Verse 8. ” The goat waxed strong and the horn was broken and 4 horns grew out of it”. This corresponds to the 4 headed leopard of chapter 7. The Grecian empire had Alexander the great that waxed strong but died to produce 4 kings in the empire, Lysimachus, Ptolemy, Cassander, and Seleucus. Seleucus became ruler in the east over Syria, Babylon and Media Lysimachus ruled in the north over, Thrace, Cappadocia and the northern part of Asia minor Cassander ruled in the west over Macedon, Thessaly and Greece Ptolemy ruled in the south over Egypt and Cyprus Verse 9 ” Out of one of the horns (the 4 new horns) came forth this Little horn”. The emphasis is now on the Little horn, the detail of how the fourth empire started as told in Chapter 7 was not given here. The point of interest is that the Fourth Empire shall 1. Not come by conquest but by transformation and 2. That the Little horn shall perform similar functions as discussed in chapter 7. Read verses 10 – 12 and Verses 24-25 The Detail of how the Roman Empire emerged out of the Greece Empire shall be discussed in detail in our subsequent studies. This Chapter is conforming to our study so far, about the activities of the Little Horn which we identified to be the Papal Rome. The manipulation of the little horn power as it concerns the things of God is the reason for these vision, there is a controversy, and the devil is using this medium to take away the truth by force. God’s Truth had been trampled upon that it will take a long time to understand what is correct. The ability to understand this and follow the truth is what keeps us.
