The Marin Association for the Education of Young Children Presents: Using Art to Teach Self-Regulation, and Increase Resiliency Saturday, October 19, 2013 8:30am to 2:00pm Held at the Marin County Office of Education 1111 Las Gallinas Ave. San Rafael CA 94903 If there was a fun and simple way to support the social, emotional, cognitive, and creative development of a child and at the same time teach them how to self-regulate wouldn’t you want that tool in your toolbox? The I Create What I Believe! (ICWIB) selfawareness art program is just such a tool. This program, comprised of a series of deceptively simple drawing exercises, is based on recent insights into the science of perception: how beliefs and perceptions, acquired in the early years, can impact an individual’s ability to learn, grow and thrive. (For more information see Brucelipton) Nancy Marie is the creator of I Create What I Believe! (ICWIB). She has an academic background in the fields of art and movement, though her longtime fascination has been the mind. Specifically, she has focused on how stress and our early childhood experiences affect the mind and one’s ability to succeed. This life-long pursuit, and the creation of the ICWIB program were inspired by her own trauma, learning challenges, and subsequent healing. For more information about the ICWIB program: ICreateWhatIBelieve Workshop Schedule: 8:30 – 9:00 Registration and Breakfast 9:00 – 11:30 Morning Session 11:30 – 12:30 Lunch (Provided) 12:30 – 2:00 Afternoon Session Presentation: This interactive presentation will provide you with the basic science behind the I Create What I Believe! program so you can have a greater understanding of how stress affects the mind compromises learning, and creates inappropriate behavior.
