The National Association of County officials (NACo) recognize St. James Parish Government along with 8 other parishes for the Coalition for Sustainable Flood Insurance National Awareness Campaign. The campaign was a collaborative effort to educate residents about the need to amend the Biggert-Waters Act of 2012 to bring affordable insurance rates to home and property owners. All parties worked diligently for 364 days from start to finish reaching 35 states with important information. In the end, our goal was accomplished of getting the support of President Barack Obama as he signed the Congressional Act to offer sustainable rates to the public. “Congratulations to all of the parties involved who supported our efforts and helped to reach this level. This is a huge accomplishment for Louisiana and several coastal states,” says Parish President Timothy P. Roussel.
