The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for all three counties in Delaware. With periods of heavy rain predicted for late Thursday night into Friday night, the current Watch extends from tonight into early Saturday morning. The entire state is expected to get 1.5 to 3 inches of rain with the potential for up to 5 inches in some areas. Excessive rainfall could occur early Friday morning and late Friday afternoon into early evening. A Flash Flood Watch is issued when conditions develop that may lead to flash flooding. Weather updates should be closely monitored especially if you live in a flood prone or low lying area. Notices of a Flash Flood Warning will be issued if flooding is imminent. Areas not close to rivers, streams or a coastline can flood. In times of heavy downpours, heavily paved areas lacking sufficient drainage can flood with rapidly moving water. Never drive or walk through flood waters. Monitor the National Weather Service on line and NOAA Weather radio for current conditions and predictions. Check prepareDE.org and ready.gov for preparedness and response measures in case of flooding.
