The PSLE fever is soon over except those who are taking Higher Mother Tongue. Now, let us look at some of most popular questions discussed on forums for this year’s Math paper: Question 1: There are 60 apples and 75 pears. She wants to pack the fruits into bags without any leftover. There are an equal number of fruits in each bag. How many apples are there in each bag if as many bags as possible are to be used? Factors of 60: 1 x 60 2 x 30 3 x 20 4 x 15 5 x 12 6 x 10 Factors of 75: 1 x75 3 x 25 5 x 15 If as many bags as possible are used -> Highest common factor of 60 and 75 -> 15 bags Therefore, the number of fruits in each bag will be: 60 / 15 = 4 apples 75 / 15 = 5 pears Ans: 4 apples Question 2: There were 540 long and short rulers. After selling an equal number of rulers, 1/3 of the long rulers and 1/6 of the short rulers were left. How many rulers were left altogether? 2/3 long rulers -> 5/6 short rulers (equal sold) 10/15 long rulers -> 10/12 short rulers (equal sold) Long : Short 15 : 12 (at first) 10 : 10 (sold) 5 : 2 (left) Total at first -> 27u -> 540 1u -> 20 Total left -> 7u -> 140 (Ans)
