The President of Brazil, Dilma Rousseff, sent 101,000 students to study abroad in various countries in order to combat the country’s skilled worker shortage. Half of these students will be studying in colleges and universities in the United States to enhance their knowledge in science, technology, engineering and math. The increase in the number of international students participating in these programs has undoubtedly impacted the language industry. The U.S. State Departments have shown a greater need for multilanguage services. Besides implementing intensive English programs to help these international students overcome the language barrier, the U.S. State Departments are determined to create an inviting and dynamic backdrop by promoting language and cultural studies courses to domestic students.
