The Ralph Diaries~ JANUARY 22 1967- San Antonio- Sunday- Dad got sick today, so we couldnt go to church. I did some business filing for Dad, for $3.00. Bought hamburgers at the Malt Shoppe, saw David McLain there. 1968- San Antonio- Monday- Mr. Mullins took me to school. Got my new class schedule today. Went to our basketball game, we beat South Cross, 42-32. I got to keep score. After the game, at 7:45, I went to the mobile library, by Stop-N-Go. 1971- Lubbock- Friday- Went to school, Monterey. Went to the Junior Assembly. It was pretty cool. Worked at KMart Foods, 4:30-9:15. Cleaned out my desk drawer at home. 1975- Lubbock- Wednesday- Went to classes at Tech. Put gas in my Ford Custom. Drove cab tonight. Picked up a lady on Ave. P, who was mad at her cheating husband and was spending his entire coin collection, drinking at bars. I picked her up 3 times, got some nice coins from her, also some Silver Certificates. Bet he was mad.... 1976- Lubbock- Thursday- Went to classes at Tech. Drove cab tonight, picked up paycheck, $107.81. 1987- Lubbock- Thursday- Delbert McClinton at Fast n Cool tonight (formerly Fat Dawgs). 1988- Lubbock- Friday- Had the guys over for boxing and beer. Polly came over, too. Mike Tyson vs. Larry Holmes. Tyson knocked him out in the 4th round. 1993- Lubbock- Friday- Worked at University store. Craig Crafton (3C) had his industrial show at the Depot Warehouse tonight, with Moby, Prodigy and Cybersonic. (note: Moby and Prodigy later became huge. Bet 3C got em cheap back then.) 1997- Ransom Canyon- Wednesday- Worked at 82nd st. store. Tonight, went to see Arlo Guthrie at Stubbs, 19th St. Great show, got his autograph, although he wasnt all that friendly. 1999- Lubbock- Friday- Worked at 82nd st. store. Lane and I put on the FMX Birthday Bash tonight, at The Depot Warehouse. Its always a big night, very successful. 2003- Lubbock- Wednesday- Guido, our new dog, is a real pain. So far, hes pooped and peed in almost every room in the house. And, man, he can pee a lot! 2005- Lubbock- Saturday- Mike and Bernice in town. Gave them a little tour of the city. Stopped and ate at Wendys. They went up to Tech to see Bernices daughter play volleyball. Tonight, we drank and talked till Fischer fell asleep on the couch. 2007- Lubbock- Monday- Exercised, hot-tubbed. Went to work, 12:30. Worked with Stephen and Nick. Rodney came by. I think I should retire. Most of my customers these days seem to be either thieves or kids buying video games. Not like the old days. Went home for dinner. Polly had brisket ready. Alison wants to go to Dallas this weekend with her friend, Katie. 2009- Lubbock- Thursday- Picked up Rodney, ate lunch at Lite Bite. Then we went over to the Freyburgers house, where we picked up my latest acquisitions, 2 refurbished old Coke machines, 2 refurbished old gas pumps, a Route 66 display case and a life-size statue of Elvis. Rodney expertly fastened everything down in my trailer and we made it out to the warehouse without any accidents. We got quite a few looks from people as we went down 19th street, with Elvis in the back. All the stuff is in excellent condition, really looks good in my warehouse and office. 2010- Lubbock- Friday- Went to work at 1:00 and Jim Lauder and Rick Hall were waiting for me at the store. Ive known Jim since 5th grade and Rick lived on my street, in San Antonio. Tonight, Polly and I had dinner at Cattle Baron, then picked up Joey and Nick at Tinsel Town. Then we went by the Holiday Inn, where Jim and Rick had a suite. Jim bought lots of wine, so we drank wine all evening and talked. We also watched Conan OBrians last night on the Tonight Show. A fun night! 2011- Lubbock- Saturday- Drove out to the warehouse, took a load of DVDs, brought back a load of LPs. Worked at the store most of the day. Had dinner with Mike V. at Ruby Tequilas. On the way out, saw one of Larrys stretch-limos out front. The driver was on the phone, talking to Larry and I asked him if I could talk to him. Larry was down the street, at Abuelos, in another limo. I need a ride! Evander Holyfield fighting tonight, 48 years old. Id like to see it, but not for $30. 2012- Leakey/Lubbock- Sunday- Went by parents house, visited, then left for Lubbock about 10:30. Ate at Crown Burger in Ballinger. Got home about 4:15, watched the New England Patriots barely beat the Baltimore Ravens. After, we watched the N.Y. Giants barely beat San Francisco. Two pretty good games. Patriots vs. Giants In the Super Bowl, a re-run from 4 years ago! Went down to the store, wrote out paychecks, looks like they did well while I was gone. 2013- Ransom Canyon- Tuesday- Woke up at our new house, pretty early. Polly and I had breakfast together, which is rare. Max survived his first night, didnt whine or bark. Must get some curtains up as that morning sun comes in very bright. Let Max loose in the back yard, took off his diaper first, and he peed everywhere. Then back inside, diaper on. Back to the real world about noon, had lunch with Poindexter at Pei Wei. Got a call from the Veterans Admin. about renting my Broadway building. They need to do a few alterations, at their own expense, which is fine with me. Then, to work. Did not work too late, headed out to the new house. Measured it at 14 miles from my store to the new house. Old house was probably .2 miles..... 2014- Ransom Canyon- Wednesday- Met Poindexter at Furrs for lunch. Went to Lubbock Central Appraisal District and wrote checks for $40,000 for property taxes. Just keeps going up. Then, to the post office, paid more bills. Went to work after that. KTXT-TV was at the store doing an interview with Daniel Fluitt, about live music in town. He is moving to Tennessee next week. Home for dinner at 8:45.
