The Randolph Guide | Asheboro NC | Home Page August 10, 2009 Driver charged in chase ASHEBORO — A driver attempting to flee from sheriff deputies wound up crashing into a power pole and receiving multiple charges. According to a report from the Randolph County Sheriffs Office, officers looking for a stolen vehicle in the Kemp Boulevard area of Asheboro on Monday morning, Aug. 10, spotted a 1999 Toyota Camry that matched the description of the stolen car. While running the cars registration and driver information, the driver suddenly took off. Driving toward the deputies, the car bumper brushed one officer and the other officer fired a round from his weapon, striking the grill of the Camry. Neither deputy was injured but the suspect continued on and other deputies began pursuit on N.C. 42. Officers, the report said, lost sight of the Camry for a time before finding it on Erect Road after the driver had struck a utility pole. The driver was transported to Randolph Hospital and released and the State Highway Patrol was called to investigate the wreck. The report said the Camry driven by the suspect was not the vehicle reported stolen. Deputies arrested Kristen Nicole Carlson, 27, of Asheboro. She was charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon on government official and one count each of felony flee/elude arrest with motor vehicle, driving while license revoked, injury to real property, fail to stop at stopsign/flashing red light, fail to burn headlamps, fail to heed light or siren, fail to stop at steady red light, drive left of center and speed in excess of 65 miles per hour. Carlson was placed under a $55,000 secured bond. Her first court appearance was Aug. 11. This story was posted Aug. 10, 2009.
