The Rescue The rescue did their job quite well and stole from death this half dead shell, then got her to a better place, with feed and hay and saving grace. And when they knew she would not die, was time to ready for good-by, as with a rescue whats to be, and that is how she came to me. The days grew long and greened the grass, the days and nights began to pass. Her hair began to brighten, shed, and better days were now ahead. She rests her nose against my knee and I am glad shes there for me. I comb her mane and rub her face, theres always more to take her place. Another horse, another day with no water, grain nor hay. Im thankful I can play a part, in redoing someones evil heart. I praise the rescues, all they do, their sleepless nights, their unpaid crew; the lives they save from year to year, I thank the ones who persevere. I think on this well all agree, when a soft nose rests against our knee, while all the others fume and fuss, the world is right and great for us. I watch her now, she snatches grass, her worries now are in the past. She nickers softly, so much grace and I pray for those that take her place. By Linda
