The Saturday Scoop The Lookout House was founded in 1886 near Kyles Lane on the Dixie Highway, eventually becoming the anchor of the famous “Gourmet Strip.” Jimmy Brink, a local figure with mob connections including Al Capone, bought the Lookout House in 1933, transforming it into a posh showplace with illegal gambling. Brink died in a suspicious plane crash in 1952. Later, Robert and Richard Shilling operated the supper club, featuring nationally known performers. Fire destroyed the Lookout House while it was closed for renovations in 1973. It never reopened.
