The Second Young Michigan Filmmakers Festival (YMFF) will take place on Saturday night, July 5, at the Old Art Building in Leland, Michigan from 6:00 to 10:00 pm. Last year was the inaugural year for YMFF with over 40 films submitted and 19 films shown. The festival was such a success that the film committee decided to hold it on the 4th of July weekend this year to present it to a wider audience and encourage even more participation. The entry criteria are; filmmakers must be under 25 years of age and films cannot exceed 30 minutes in length. Films are due at the Old Art Building by June 1, 2014, and can be submitted via YouTube, Vimeo, or on a DVD. There are no entry fees. Awards are presented in the categories of Best Comedy, Best Drama, Best Documentary, Best Animated Film, Best Music Video, Best Experimental/Avant Garde film, Best Film, and the Audience Choice Award. A panel of six jurors will screen the films submitted. The jury, made up of industry professionals and film aficionados, will trim down the field of entries to approximately 3 1/2 hours for Saturday night’s screening. The Old Art Building’s W.T. Best Theater has HD digital projection and surround-sound that provides a state-of-the-art, big screen experience for young filmmakers. High School and University film students from around the state were represented last years film festival. Admission is free but contributions are greatly appreciated.
