The Sixth Sunday in “No Fr. Jon” Time. Listening to the Lord - TopicsExpress

The Sixth Sunday in “No Fr. Jon” Time. Listening to the Lord is not easy in the midst of our noisy, busy culture. We are scared to death of silence and exert a lot of energy to avoid it. We complain of boredom. But, silence is essential for paying attention to what is happening in the movements of our heart which is one way we can be aware of God speaking. He speaks in a certain way, most often through gentle movements of love or peace. We can imagine our heart as a room. At times, it is messy with sadness, discouragement, anxiety, etc. Inviting the Lord into it can bring peace, joy, contentment. We can listen to the Lord by paying attention to those gentle movements of peace. In order to do that: 1. Don’t be afraid of silence. God speaks in the midst of silence, and it allows our hearts to breathe. 2. Pay attention to the movements of your heart.. Are you experiencing sadness or anxiety, or peace and joy? 3. Invite the Lord into those movements. If you are experiencing peace or love, follow that movement or thought. Sit with it and ponder it. By following these few simple steps, we can begin to gain the tools we need to listen to the Lord. Let us pray that we would not be afraid of silence, and that we would pay attention to what is happening in our heart and allow the Lord to enter in. From the Pastor’s Corner by Fr. Jon V.P.
