The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is an International non-profit animal welfare organisation. You will generally find one or more in majority of the cities in most countries. SPCA Lucknow was shut and left unused since the 1970s. I am very pleased to announce that last month along with the help of the DM of Lucknow, I was able to get it started again. As you can see from the first two pictures the building was totally run down and disfunctional. We started construction this month and we should have this basic structure and a functional O.T. up and running by the end of the month. SPCA Lucknow is located in New Hyderabad which is in the heart of the city whereas Jeev Aashraya is in the outskirts, near the Amausi airport. The city lacks an effective sterilization programme and from what I have observed no amount of treatment and shelters will help unless the root of the problem is solved. This dire need should have happened yesterday. For now this is the best that we can do with the limited resources that we have. A ground floor unit and one single O.T., It is my first step toward making a difference to Lucknows stray dog population. It will and should improve their quality of life. My plan is to get the locals involved in this. Once we finish sterilizing the dogs in a particular colony or area, we have to educate the locals to consider them an integral and unavoidable part of their colonies. To treat them kindly and feed them for as long as they survive. If society does not imbibe this feeling then nothing anyone does will make a difference.
