The Source III We Press and Request..!!! The Spirit as Instrument / Agent The Holy Spirit is closely identified with the words of the Lord Jesus. It is the Spirit that quickens; the flesh profits nothing, the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit and they are life. The proclamation of “the Gospel” cannot be divorced from the Holy Spirit. Unless you intend to preach without power; then in vain will be your attempt in preaching it. Human eloquence or persuasiveness of speech are the mere trappings of those who are spiritually dead, if the life giving Spirit be absent; the prophet may preach to the bones in the valley, but it must be the breath from Heaven which causes them to live. In l Peter 3 it reads, For Christ also has once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit. Here we see that Christ was raised up from the grave by this same Spirit, and the power exercised to raise Christs dead body must raise our dead souls and quicken them. No other power on earth can quicken a dead soul, but the same power that raised the body of Jesus Christ out of Josephs sepulcher. And if we want that power to quicken our friends who are dead in sin, we must look to God, and not to “destiny”, “blessing plan”, “you can’t lose with the stuff I use” type of preaching. If we look alone to ministers, if we look alone to Christs disciples to do this work, we shall be disappointed; but if we look to the Spirit of God and expect it to come from Him and Him alone, then we shall honor the Spirit, and the Spirit will do His work. Then Opened He Their UNDERSTANDING, That They Might Understand The Scriptures, And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And ye are witnesses of these things. And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high. Luke 24:45-49 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. Acts 1:8 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God.Then answered Peter, Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Acts 10:44-48
