The Spartans caught in action before they started in their conference opener vs. Cuyamaca....The MiraCosta College Volleyball team gets its first league win and home win of the season. The Spartans looked sharp as they entered conference play today. All 15 eligible players played 1-2 sets minimum in the match, making it a memorable night in the first home win of the season. Being a team and putting it above self is something we value here at MiraCosta. The girls really showed the love and care they have for one another as they all got an opportunity to shine, Head Coach, Kristen Wright shared. The offensive force of the team was revealed as the Eagles slammed down 42 of the 75 points in attacking. Eight other points came from aces. Fr. setter, Taylor Little had a great night as she had 32 assists, nine digs (team high), and led with Fr. OH/M, Bri Sizemore in aces with three. Bri Sizemore led the attacking force with 12 kills ( not even swinging front row in set two). She also hit a .733 attack percentage. Breanna Kirklen and Morgan Sizemore each had 6 kills in 2 sets hitting a .625 clip and .444 clip respectively. Behind them was Rachel Szeyller who slammed down 5 kills on 7 attempts in a set and a half hitting a .714. Kelsi Delgado had a hot night with 4 kills in 1 just one set hitting a .600 clip. Other key contributors to enter the match were: Fr. RS, Alexis Burnstan, who hit .500 putting down 2 of 4 sets in 1 set. Fr. Middle, Caitlan Byers put down 2 kills on 4 attempts, hitting a .500. The Spartan back court stars worked together to keep balls off the floor. Liberos Leila Ghasami and Carly Cameron were solid and Receive and defense. Fr. Megan McMinzie had a few key touches and passed and served well as well as Fr. Kyra Henderson. Shaina Lilly got a few swings in set three with a kill. Overall, the Spartans 15 players managed to hit a .516 proficiency. Next up, Mesa College this Wednesday at MCC. 6PM, be there!!
