The VA Inspector General’s interim report released Wednesday made clear that there are simply too many systemic problems within the Department of Veterans Affairs. Thats why I called yesterday for Secretary Shinseki to resign and for expeditious efforts to fix problems that have resulted in delays for veterans’ care. Now that Secretary Shinseki has resigned today, new leadership at the VA must work to correct the problems outlined in the IG report. I also believe a criminal investigation into the allegations should be conducted to help get to the root of the problems and to hold accountable anyone responsible for criminal activity. We must keep fighting for those who have fought for us to ensure they receive the benefits they have earned.
